Please know that option two was never a viable option! I share it only to show how truly at a loss for ideas we were.
In this scenario, our youngest two, Joshua and Matthew, would be happily playing video games while the oldest two, Molly and Jonah, lounged on the couch posting selfies and Snapchatting the world.
“Hey guys, we need to talk to you about something.” After a bit of grumbling, the video controllers would be put down and all of the kids would sit side-by-side on the couch. They all would look a bit pensive … they would suspect something was “up,” but couldn’t quite nail it down.
Once again, John would begin. “We have some news. Aimee and I are getting married.”
“Oh my goodness! WHY would you do a thing like that?”
John and I would look at one another, share a little smile, and give a little sigh before he would proceed: “Well, we’re going to have a baby.”
A pregnant pause (pun intended) … and then the wailing and gnashing of teeth would begin.
We’d calmly wave our arms and say, “Just joking! But we are getting married. It could be worse, right?”
While toying with the kids’ emotions would never be an option, we were able to laugh about this scenario and shake any nervousness we had about spilling the beans.
